Memoire of Japan #3

＜＜＜シリーズ第3弾＞＞＞

愛知から群馬へ移動。まずは東海道新幹線。「ママ、どうして新幹線っていう名前なの？」と娘。考えてみれば、いつか古くなるのに、そのときのことしか考えないでつくった名前だねえ。
We moved from my hometown to his hometown on this day. We took two bullet trains.

お次は上越新幹線。こちらは2階建てだぞぅ。
This one has two stories. Of course, we sat on the second floor.


さてさて群馬。こちらはいとこ3人組。みんな大きくなったもんだ。
Now we are in Gumma, his hometown. Here is three cousins. They have really grown.


おじいちゃんとおじちゃん。おじいちゃんがどうして眉を吊り上げているかはわけがある。
Here is Grandpa and Uncle T.

みんなで花火。アメリカではできないからねえ。
We can never end Japanese summer without fireworks.


さてさて、びよ~んと飛んできて、こちらロサンゼルス国際空港。先に戻っていたパパが空港まで乗ってきた車で、私と子どもたちは帰宅。パパはその足で東海岸へ出張。「ただいま」「いってらっしゃい」でした。

We flew over the Pacific Ocean and are now back at LA international airport. Daddy, who came back a while ago on his own, drove the car to the airport, and I drove it home. He then left for Washington DC for business. It was a brief welcome-back-see-you-later encounter.


日本でお世話になったじいちゃん、ばあちゃん、おじちゃん、おばちゃん、いとこたち、親戚の方々、どうもありがとうございました。いつもよくして頂き感謝です。

Memoire of Japan #2

＜＜＜シリーズ第二弾＞＞＞

トヨタの工場見学に行きました。
We joined a factory tour at Toyota ( Toyota started its business in our prefecture in Japan).


工場の中は撮影禁止のため、これはショールームでパチリ。
Photos are forbidden in factories. These pictures are taken in the show room.


こちらは愛知の実家の近くのシニア・ケアハウスの庭にある小さな動物園。いつも愛知にくると、ここにきて馬や山羊に会いに来ます。

This is a tiny zoo kept by a senior residential facility, close to where my parents live. Every time we visit my parents, we come here to greet these horses, goats, bunnies and ducks.


この日は、近くのモールにスタジオ・ジブリの最新作「借り暮らしのアリエッティ」を見に来ました。娘のＴシャツもトゥイーティーなのがわかるかしら？

On this day, we went to see the latest Studio Ghibli's animation movie, "Karigurashi no Arietti." There is Tweety on her T-shirt too. Can you see?


「何が食べたい？」と聞かれて、「カニ、カニ、カニ！」と叫び続けていた娘のリクエストでかに屋へ。
Somehow my daughter was obsessed with crabs (to eat). So my parents took her to a crab specialty restaurant.


娘はひたすらタラバガニをたらふく食べる。
In front of her is a bowl of boiled Taraba Crabs. She was happy.


ここからは、ばあちゃん、私、娘の女3人バスツアー。長野へ。
From here, it's a bus tour we, three girls (my mom, me and my daughter), did. They took us to Nagano prefecture.

恵那山の頂上へ。
This is the top of the mountain in Nagano.

動物がいれば娘は上機嫌。
Where there are animals, she is happy.

Memoire of Japan #1

アメリカに帰ってきました。もう4日発つけど、どうも時差ボケ。シャンプーで顔を洗ったり、ブレーキのつもりでアクセル踏みそうになったり、ボケボケ。日本→東海岸より、日本→西海岸のほうが時差ボケがひどいみたい。日本にいる間さぼっていたブログですが、一挙に写真を公開しちゃいましょう。。。

＜＜＜　シリーズ第一弾　＞＞＞

夏といえばなんといってもコレでしょ。
You can never survive Japanese summer without this.

こちら鯉池を囲んでつくられた料亭。鯉にエサをやっている子どもたち。
This restaurant has a huge koi pond in the middle. Kids are feeding kois.

5切れで1900円の飛騨牛！
These Hida beef is $17 for 5 little pieces.

みんなで一枚。

Beyond the window is the koi pond.

ここからいきなり京都。計画にはなかったけれど、ひょんなきっかけでくることに。まず銀閣寺。
We did not plan on this, but we went to Kyoto for a day. Here is Ginkakuji.

そして、こちら金閣寺。
This one is Kinkakuji.

清水寺。「清水の舞台から飛び降りる」の意味を一生懸命説明したところ、後で息子曰く、「あそこあそこ、あの~　仏壇の人が飛び降りるところは何ていったっけ？」ときた。

This is Kiyomizu Temple. All these places are world heritages.

何をお祈りしているのかな~。。。京都はとにかく暑かった。サウナにいるみたいでした。

What is she praying for? 　　Kyoto was simply way too hot (and humid). We felt like we were in Sauna.
