朝9時に、巨大トラック参上。運転するのは、引越しクリューのリーダーのトニー。トラック同様巨大なヒト。背は私の2倍。彼と私、動物学上とても同じ種に属するとは思えない。トラックでやってきて、うちの前を少し通り過ぎ、トラックのオシリを我が家の長くて細いドライブウェイの入り口のところにピッタリとつけたかと思うと、今度はハンドルをきってドライブウェイにスルスルとバックで入り、荷積みにぴったりの位置に軽やかにフィニッシュ。その美しすぎるパフォーマンスにホレボレしている私の横で、主人がエンジニアリング用語で解説をつける。”あれこそが、ノン・ホロノミック・システムだ！”いったい何を意味するのか知らないけれど、あの技はまねできないでしょ。。みんな汗だくで荷積みをし、午後5時ごろ完了。家はからっぽ。不思議な感じ。
At 9:00 am, loading crews came in a huge 18 wheeler. Tony, the driver/leader, who is equally huge in height and almost twice my size (I do not believe he and I belong to the same species), drove past out house a little, stop the truck so that the end of the truck was just at the entrance of our long narrow driveway, and backed it up like a breeze until it was located at the perfect spot for loading. While I watched it with an awe, my husband gave it a technical review using some engineering jargon; "well, that is exactly called a non-holonomic system." Whatever that means, I don't think he can DO it. They worked hard, and finished loading everything by 5:00 pm. Everything is now gone and the house is empty.
