久しぶりの雨があがって今日は快晴。家の前の道に植わっている木々に花が咲いた。After many rainy days, we enjoyed the California sunshine today. On our street, we see a line of trees with white flowers.
いったいこれは何の木？花だけ見ると桜に似ているけど、でも桜じゃあないなあ、これは。It looks similar to cherry blossoms, but I do not think they are. Anybody, any idea?
しかもこの木、葉っぱがついているけれど、この葉っぱ、新緑にあらず。12月あたりに気持ちだけ”紅葉”して茶色になったんだけど、落ちずに残ったものと、頑固にも緑を守った葉っぱが入り混じっている中に、そのまま花が咲いて、なんというかクリスマスのデコレーションをしまい忘れているうちに、お雛様を飾っちゃったかんじ。節操がないよ。フォーシーズン派の私としては、落葉して枯れ木になって花が咲いて新緑が出てくれないと、気持ちのケジメがつきません。大体今は1月だしねえ。These trees have leaves, but they are not fresh spring green. In December, some of the leaves managed to turn colors but they stayed on without falling. Some of the leaves stubbornly stuck with their green color. So along with reddish brown leaves and still green ones, now we see flowers on the same trees. It's like before you have a chance to put down Christmas decorations, you are now coloring the Easter eggs. It just does not look right. The correct sequence is turn colors, lose leaves, have flowers and then get fresh green leaves. Do I have to teach them?
